John Hearne’s curriculum covers it all. With thousands of hours of firearms training under his gunbelt, John has been the overall top shot at the Rangemaster Tactical Conference and many times high lawman there, not to mention teaching every year at that conference since 2001.

Every shooting class has a tone. Some shooting classes are very lighthearted and friendly, creating a jovial environment. There are far fewer classes on the other end of that spectrum – serious classes for serious people engaged in the direst of circumstances.

Allow me to introduce you to the concept behind the Cognitive Pistol curriculum from John Hearne of Two Pillars Training.

Hearne is a retired federal law enforcement officer and also a Rangemaster certified instructor and… I was going to say, “student of defensive pistolcraft”, but “absolute nerd for the deepest nuances of employing a pistol in the pursuit of personal protection” would be closer to the truth.

While these skills are no doubt vital to possessing a well-rounded survival repertoire, the underlying historical and psycho-emotional factors of interpersonal violence are rarely discussed — let alone trained — by most of our favorite instructors. These issues are far less entertaining to talk about, and require far more effort to reach instructional proficiency. Enter John Hearne and his company Two Pillars Training. Part professor and part gunslinger, Hearne has carved out a unique and under-served niche in today’s go-fast social-media-forward training market.

It’s one thing to learn from our experience and apply those lessons to the concealed-carry lifestyle. It’s something else to learn from the experiences of other people and then apply those lessons in both a classroom and range setting, but that’s just what John Hearne of Two Pillars Training does with three of his one day classes.

Hearne has dedicated a significant amount of time to high-level academic research in some topics that may, at first glance, sound dry to the average shooter. These were full-day lectures, with zero range time and a lot of very in-depth technical and historical discussion. We don’t say any of this to dissuade you from his courses. On the contrary, we highly recommend you attend any of his lectures if you ever have the chance.
