John Hearne is infamous for bringing together real-world best practices with the latest in quality research.

John has been a Rangemaster Staff instructor since 2001 and has a public safety career going back to 1986.  From 1992 to 2023, John was a Federal LEO and retired as a field supervisor.  He taught a variety of subjects for his agency – from firearms to tactics to legal updates.  John also taught use of force for his agency and the basic class at the local police academy.

In 2021, John founded Two Pillars Training and began to offer unique curriculum focusing on decision making while shooting in addition to classic skills with pistol and carbine.  Besides hands-on shooting classes, John has presentations focusing on the data side of the self-defense world.  His interests include human performance under life and death stress, historic gunfights, crime data, and criminal typologies.

While not browsing the stacks of the university library, John has demonstrated the ability to shoot at a very high level.  John holds as a Turbo Pin (#7 - from strong side hip, the first to do so), Spaulding belt buckle (#15), and a FAST pin.  B.C. (Before Children) John shot competitively at the local and national level.  John has several Tac Con top ten finishes, numerous Tac Con High Lawman awards, a trophy or two from regional matches, and was recognized as a top practitioner at the National Tactical Invitational (NTI).

John has a Master’s degree in criminal justice with a concentration in Research Methods.  He has instructor credentials from the FBI, FLETC, NRA-LEAD, Rangemaster, CSAT, Centrifuge Training, Tactical Anatomy Systems, Kentucky National Guard, and many others.

Finally, John is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation.
